The Maatschappij tot Exploitatie tot de Staatsspoorwegen (SS) ordered 339 of these throughout 1863-1889 from the factory J. J. Beijnes, among others. They coach was split up into five compartments that could fit ten people each, one of these compartments was reserved for women only. There was no toilet on board. They entered service as third class (C) coaches SS 1-339
NS
After the SS and the Hollandsche IJzeren Spoorweg-maatschappij (HSM) merged in 1921, the remaining coaches where renumbered to NS C 2126-2285, remaining third class coaches. While most were scrapped between 1931-1933, SS C 218 survived until 1952 as a track maintenacnce wagon running under as NS 177007. After 1952 it was preserved and in 1975 the coach was restored in its original SS livery and number and brought the Dutch National Railway Museum in Utrecht.
