Historical Details

NS years

Due to visibility issues with the NS 2400 class, the last locomotive was ordered with a modified design in hopes of improving visibility. It was delivered in 1957 in a unique, lilac livery upon the request of the wife of F. Q. den Hollander, who was the president-director of NS at the time. The livery earned it the nickname De bisschop (the bishop). It would lose its unique livery in 1963, when it was painted brown along with the rest of the class. Nine years later, in 1972, it was given the yellow-grey home style of the railways.

Due to the improved visibility, 2530 the only locomotive used on the so-called spray train, the railways' weapon against weeds and shrubbery, between 1964 and 1989. Outside of the spray train, it was also put on work trains and the occasional passenger service.

It was withdrawn in 1991, though it has been preserved.

Heritage

The Veluwsche Stoomtrein Maatschappij (VSM) acquired the once again lilac 2530 in 1992. In 2005, they gave the locomotive her NS brown livery, which she kept until 2019, when she was painted into lilac again. It is currently still operational

Technical details

The NS 2530 featured a raised cab with windows on all side and a lower engine hood. It was also slightly longer than the rest of the class, 13.3 metres instead of 12.5.

Besides those modifications, it was identical to the rest of the NS 2400.

Trivia

  • Despite being labelled and sold differently in game, the NS 2530 was considered a part of the NS 2400 locomotive fleet, and not a separate series.
    • The NS 2530 could be considered a worse NS 2400, due to its raised price and limited use, being freight only.
  • The NS 2530 is 13,1 meters long in-game, whereas the NS 2400 is 12,5 meters long.
  • The NS 2530 is Streamlined's sole freight diesel.
    • The NS 2000 was a freight only locomotive on release, but in version 0.4.53 the locomotive was changed to mixed.
  • The NS 2530 has been available since version 0.1, the game's launch.
    • The Brown livery was added in 0.1.6.
