Historical details

The elephant van is part of a large series of goods wagons built by Waggongyär Györ in Hungary after 1949, which Dutch Railways ordered after a large part of their wagon fleet was destroyed during World War 2. These wagons, built with various differerent configurations, were quickly given the nickname "Hongaar", or literally translated "Hungarian". A version with big doors at the front and rear of the wagon was nicknamed "Olifantenwagen", or "Elephant van". A single example of the variant seen in Streamlined, number NS 20972 CHHP, has been preserved by the Veluwsche Stoomtrein Maatschappij (VSM), where it has been restored to working order. They also have a wagon with the large front and rear doors in their collection, number NS 20836.

Trivia

• The Elephant van has been available since the game's release, version 0.1.
• The one preserved example of the Elephant van has been victim of an arson attack in 2022. after which the Streamlined team donated €500 towards the restoration of this and the S-CHR livestock van.
