Historical details

The United States Transportation Corps, on top of their locomotives, required an entire fleet of wagons to help with the war effort. They designed an entire fleet of mostly 2 and 4 axle wagons, consisting of flatcars, vans, tankers, gondolas and heavy lowloaders to transport tanks and other heavy equipment.

Most of the wagons were shipped to Europe in parts, and put together here. They saw extensive use throughout the allied campaign, with most wagons not returning to the United States after the war was won. Lots of wagons saw service in the countries in which they'd been left, with others being scrapped. Various examples of the USATC fleet can be found all over Europe, with some wagons preserved in the Netherlands, too.

The 2 axle boxcar has seen extensive use in the Netherlands after the war, being one of the most common ex-USATC wagons found in the Netherlands. Several examples have been preserved, both in USATC and NS livery.
