Historical details
The Gs goods van was developed by the international Office de Recherches et d'Essays (ORE), based in Utrecht, to create a universal goods van. Subsequently, the design included a lot of standardised parts. The vans had a barrel-shaped roof, four ventilation slides on all four sides and a floor that was suitable for the use of forklifts. Numerous European railway companies acquired this design, including Netherlands where Werkspoor built a total of 3,400 of them for the Nederlandsche Spoorwegen (NS), which were placed into service between 1956 and 1959.
