Historical Basis

The railway station of Sliedrecht was officially opened on July 16. 1885, the station initially only had a single track at that time. The station resides on the MerwedeLingelijn which is part of the Betuwelijn, with the majority of the route being made up of single-track.
The previous station building was largely identical to the first Hardinxveld-Giessendam station, which was demolished, with the still existing station of Leerdam being a shrunken down version of it.

A new station building would be built in 1985 with the architect, Robert Marie Joseph Alphonse (Rob) Steenhuis (Oct. 26. 1949 - Feb. 9. 2018) having it built in a cubist style. Reasoning for the new station was the previous one was getting too expensive to maintain and operate, with arguments that its size and distance from the city centre, however the old building is preserved and houses a restaurant called Heeren van Slydregt.
The new station building however, was demolished. But to meet with demand for citizens in the Western side of Sliedrecht, a second station would be built, this one being called Sliedrecht Baanhoek and opened in 2011.
