Historical Basis

The real station in Lisse was officially opened on January 1. 1891 and was part of the connection to the Old Line running between Amsterdam, Haarlem and Rotterdam. It was used for regular passenger service until February 17. 1944, at the beginning of the Railway Strike, following this, the station was primarily used for special trains. In the early 90s, the station building was threatened with demolition, but stands to this day as a restaurant which opened in 1994. The exterior and interior of the building was preserved.

The architectural design is attributed to D.A.N. Margadant (Feb. 22. 1849 - Oct. 26. 1915), who also designed the Den Haag Hollands Spoor and Haarlem stations along the same line. The station itself primarily stands out due to its pronounced asymmetrical design.

Trivia

  • The station of Voorlerberg is based on the station in Lisse
    • Prior to 0.5.10, it was based on the station in Soestdijk
  • It is implied by the large amount of villas and estates this station was used by rich individuals who wanted to escape the city by going to their countryhouses. This was an occurring theme throughout the Netherlands in the 19th and the start of the 20th century.
