Rossum, Dokmuiden

Westdijk is a station in Westdijk situated between Dokmuiden and Rossum.

Station Layout

Main Building

The main building is minimalist in design, as it follows a standardised design which was common in the Netherlands at the time. The station is a small, single-story building. The architectural style is that of a modern design, with large glass windows, as well as a slanted roof and a chimney in the back.

Track

The station has two pieces of track for passenger services, albeit the North-bound track to Rossum intersects into a single-track.

Historical Basis

Westdijk's real life basis, Velsen Zeeweg.

The Velsen Zeeweg station was opened on May 15, 1927 and lasted until September 25, 1983. The station itself was on the former line between Santpoort-Noord and IJmuiden. In the years from 1957-1959, a plan to make standardised station buildings on the Dutch Rail Network was forwarded, with civil engineer Willem Kloos (Mar. 21. 1904 - Nov. 24. 1960) leading the project and designing several buildings. The architecture of Velsen Zeeweg was quite common during the reconstruction period of 1940-1965.

The station was unfortunately demolished on February 24, 2016.

Trivia

  • In the Pre-rebuild of the station it had two tracks going to Rossum, Post-rebuild this was changed to one track, reasoning behind this is the station couldn't fund the double track anymore.
  • The pre-rebuild station was based on the station of Hemmen - Dodewaard
  • The post-rebuild station is based on Velsen Zeeweg
