Technical Details (Click Me!)

In 1912 the Hollandsche IJzeren Spoorwegmaatschappij (HSM) started using more 4-axle coaches, while slowly phasing out the older 3-axle and 2-axle ones. The same happened to the luggage vans. In that year the HSM D 1901-1956 type came into action, constructed in 1912, 1914 and 1920. Similar to their 3-axle counterparts they were fitted with a balcony and guard compartment on one end, with the rest of the large length used as storage for luggage. The balcony and the extended guards compartment on both the sides and the roof functioned for the guard to have a proper view of the train, as regulations dictated. In 1920 the last ones were ordered, which were also the last HSM luggage vans constructed. As the State Railways and the HSM started to become more of a unity, the HSM design and style was dropped, making these the last of luggage van development from the HSM. During NS period they were renamed to NS D 6001-6055.

Price

At level 38, the price of the ex-HSM bogied luggage van is ƒ167,000 Gulden.

Trivia

  • They were originally painted with a red-brown colour, typically used by the HSM for luggage vans.
  • In 1920 the relative new D 1915 was redesigned as NS 159001 to be used as an instruction coach for the Dienst Tractie (department of the railways in charge of operating).
  • Three of these survived into preservation: the HSM D 1915, 1920, and 1945. HSM D 1920 has been brought back to its original HSM condition with its brown-red livery. HSM D 1945 was found near Aschersleben in the former DDR, and brought back here in 2003 to be restored in the future by the SGB in Goes. HSM D 1915 is currently used as storage area there, and no longer has its own original bogies.
  • These were to be the last wooden luggage vans to be constructed in the Netherlands, as the NS only constructed steel ones after 1920.
  • The Ex-HSM bogied luggage van got added in version 0.4.9.
    • The HSM livery was added with the release of the Preserved Four gamepass in 0.5.
