Historical Details
In the early 1930s, NS ordered the Stalen D design from three different manufacturers, that being Allan, Werkspoor and Beijnes. From gained experience from the older riveted baggage/luggage wagons, the Stalen D had a fully welded body, frames and bogies. A large ammount of them were fitted with modern zwanenhals draaistellen (from Dutch: gooseneck) bogies, they were soon replaced with several older riveted bogies from older wagons that were used between the periods of 1906-1920.
The wagons received many modifications and were renumbered from 6061-6100 to 7601-7606. Five members of the Stalen D design were used for international trains. In 1937 five of them were modified to be suitable for the German and Switzerland railways
In 1937 five of them were modified to be suitable for the international traisn between Germany, Switzerland and later in 1949. In 1971 a few of them were leased to Deutsche Bundesbahn (From german: German Federal Railways).
In the early 1980s, a few of them were still in service together with the new ICR (Intercity) coaches. By the time the ICR-BKD baggage/luggage wagons were delivered, the few remaining Stalen D's were taken out of service.
Currently theres 11 preserved wagons of the Stalen D type.
