Historical details
The GTM ore wagons is part of a series of over 10.000 similar wagons to be produced for the Staatsspoorwegen, Hollandsche IJzeren Spoorweg-Maatschappij and the later Dutch Railways. The wagons had a steel frame and steel braces, holding the wooden walls in place. The first ones were built in 1901, but construction continued until 1929. The later models ordered by Dutch Railways had stronger and different frames, and most wagons received either a Kunze-Knorr or Westinghouse brake, changing their abbreviation to GTMK or GTMW respectively. The model in Streamlined mimics one of the earlier, SS or HSM built versions of the wagon.
Several wagons of the later NS type have been preserved, for example GTMK 59221 at the Spoorwegmuseum and GTMK 58501 and GTM 54301 at the Museum Buurtspoorweg.
