Historical details

Streamlined's Class 15

The Class 15 was made with an, at the time, new model of the NS 2400 and a British Rail blue livery with wasp stripes, a livery the real Class 15 never wore, after complaints of Streamlined lacking UK rolling stock and was added entirely as a meme.

Later on, a similar method was used for the Mark 1 coach, so the two could become a duo.

The BR Class 15

The Class 15 diesel locomotives, also known as BTH Type 1, were designed by British Thomson-Houston, and built by the Yorkshire Engine Company and the Clayton Equipment Company, between 1957 and 1961. After British Rail announced their 1955 modernisation plan. The first locomotive was delivered in 1957 and sufficed well enough for BR to place multiple follow-up orders, growing the class to 44 members. They were numbered D8200-D8243.

Despite the adequacy of the first, the class performed poorly in service. Much of its flaws could be contributed to its Paxman 16YHXL engine. A decision was made to withdraw the entire class in the 1960s, in favour of the larger and more succesful Class 20, despite both classes being made to satisfy the same Type 1 specifications. Their final use was as departmental locomotives, a job they did until the 1980s. One example is preserved.
