Historical details

In 1905, the Hollandsche IJzeren Spoorweg Maatschappij (HSM) ordered a series of boxcars with a loading capacity of 12 tons and up from Werkspoor. This type was among the many that HSM ordered, with it's predecessors being the CHA, CHB and CHC. The majority of the 20 ton CHD type had their roofs raised and their wheels moved from 4 to 5 meters apart in the 1930s, which in return gave them a slightly larger cargo capacity and increased top speed, now being suitable to travel at speeds of up to 100 km/h. They started to be phased out in the 1950s, with some of them being used for storage and later scrapped.

The KCH variant was modified from existing CHD wagons after 1924, with added storage racks for cheese wheels inside. Some had their wheel spacing increased, but most remained in use until the 1950s unchanged.
