Historical details
Up until the 1950s it had been sufficient to transport vehicles on regular flatcars or stake wagons. However, in the 1950s DB started struggling with the demand, and redirected an order of wagons to be converted into dedicated, bilevel car transporters. These wagons were delivered between 1953 and 1954. The wagons always ran in pairs. A total of 600 Off 52 wagons were produced, which meant 300 sets of these wagons could be found. The wagons were usually loaded with up to 10 beetles on each pair. By 1967, enough dedicated, custom designed car carriers were available and the Off 52 wagons were converted back into the ore wagons they were intended to be. It appears none have been preserved.
