Historical details

The United States Army Transportation Corps, on top of their locomotives, required an entire fleet of wagons to help with the war effort. They designed an entire fleet of mostly 2 and 4 axle wagons, consisting of flatcars, vans, tankers, gondolas and heavy lowloaders to transport tanks and other heavy equipment.

Most of the wagons were shipped to Europe in parts, and put together here. They saw extensive use throughout the allied campaign, with most wagons not returning to the United States after the war was won. Lots of wagons saw service in the countries in which they had been left, with others being scrapped. Various examples of the USATC fleet can be found all over Europe, with some wagons preserved in the Netherlands, too.

The warflats in particular were used by DB as makeshift vehicle carriers. They were slightly modified with more connection points to secure the cars to. These could also be found in the Netherlands, transporting German cars to the country.
