Historical Basis
Haaksbergen ran on on the Winterswijk – Groenlo – Eibergen – Neede – Haaksbergen – Hengelo / Enschede line which was constructed by the Geldersch-Overijsselsche Lokaalspoorweg-Maatschappij (GOLS) or Gelderland-Overjissel Local Railway Company. The station itself was a standardised design used by the GOLS, with the one in Haaksbergen being designated a type Groot, or type Large, dating from 1884, later being expanded with the addition of a goods shed in 1886, which would subsequently see an expansion as well in 1897, a second track in 1894 and an overtaking track in 1916.
Haaksbergen had connections to various factories and industries, such as ABTB, Frankenhuis & Zn., Jordaan & Zn. and the Twentsche Kabelfabriek. The station would see closure to passenger traffic on October 3. 1937 and freight May 28. 1972.

However, the station would see a new lease on life as part of the Museum Buurtspoorweg (MSB) or Local Railway Museum in Overijssel, with their museum railway line operating between Haaksbergen and Boekelo, with the Foundation being founded on February 21. 1967, and was was the first railway, second to NS, to obtain a transport concession for the Haaksbergen - Boekelo route on June 23. 1989. The station building in Haaksbergen was however under ownership of the MBS since August 15. 1985, with yard redesigns, a locomotive shed and workshop, signaling equipment, a turntable and a water column being installed, including a pedestrian bridge from Geldermalsen.
